Best locations for fashion photoshoots in Dubai
Dubai gives you desert, coastline, glass towers and old textured districts inside an hour's drive of each other. That range is the reason so much fashion work is produced here, and also the reason a location choice made casually can cost you a whole shoot day.
These are the locations I return to as a fashion photographer in Dubai, and what each one actually asks of you.
Al Qudra and the desert edge
Open sand gives you uninterrupted horizon, clean gradient skies and light that goes warm and low very quickly. It flatters flowing fabric and movement, and it kills fine detail if you arrive at midday.
Shoot the first ninety minutes after sunrise or the last ninety before sunset. Bring more water than you think, and expect sand in everything, so wardrobe changes need a vehicle or a tent.
Downtown and DIFC architecture
Hard geometry, reflective glass and deep shadow lines. This is where graphic, high-contrast fashion frames come from, and midday light that ruins desert work actually helps here by carving shadows across a facade.
Most towers sit on private property. Public pavements are usually fine for a small crew with handheld gear, but the moment you set up lights, stands or a large team, you need permission from building management.
Dubai Marina and JBR
Water, boardwalk, palms and towers in a single frame, with a resort mood that suits swim, resort and street-fashion collections. Early morning is the only time it is quiet enough to work without crowd management.
Old Dubai: Al Fahidi, the creek and the souks
Sand-coloured walls, wooden doors, textiles and narrow lanes that bounce warm light. It is the best answer when a collection would disappear against glass and steel.
It is also a lived-in neighbourhood, so keep the crew small, be respectful with wardrobe choices, and check current rules before shooting commercially.
Hotel suites and rooftops
A suite buys you controlled interiors, big windows, a bathroom for hair and makeup, and a rooftop or balcony with a skyline behind it. For editorial with several looks, it is often cheaper than moving a crew across the city three times.
Studio
When a lookbook needs forty consistent frames, the studio wins. No wind, no permits, no light changing between look three and look four. I use studio for e-commerce and beauty, and location for the campaign images that have to feel like somewhere.
Permits, timing and a practical checklist
Commercial shoots in public areas in Dubai generally require a permit, and film-permit rules change, so confirm before booking talent. Private property always needs the owner's approval.
- Scout at the same hour you plan to shoot, never at a random time of day.
- Plan two locations per day maximum if wardrobe changes are involved.
- Build in traffic time; Dubai distances are short but peak-hour transit is not.
- Have an indoor backup for shamal wind and summer humidity.
